The Notable Mr. McCloud [Jan. 14th, 2007|03:55 pm]

Hello, Family McCloud,

The school my daughter, Roxanne, attends has a winter event they call Night of the Notables. The kids choose a notable person, prepare a display about the person, and present it, in costume and in character. At last night's event the notables ranged widely; of the 75 or characters, Mahatma Ghandi, Blackbeard, Che Guevara, Mary Kay, Kurt Cobain, and Marilyn Monroe all made appearances. I thought you might be interested to know that Roxanne chose to be Scott McCloud.

Good luck on your tour. If you appear in northern California this summer we hope we get the chance to see you.

John

That's great. I think I'd be enormously flattered if I were Scott right now.

I'll bet she spent the entire evening being cheerfully talkative and self-deprecating! And drawing on napkins.

That's incredibly cool!

Next step, that giant solid-chrome statue of Scott erected to dominate over the eastern seaboard!

Thanks for posting this, John!

So, I'm curious: The only bit of art I don't recognize is the sphere illustration in the upper right. What is it? Any chance of a zoom-in?

Hi-this is Roxanne(aka 'kid in picture'). In explanation for the sphere illustration, I also had to write an essay on a disease that was prevalent during the heyday of my notable - in this case, late 1980s to now. With not many other options, I chose AIDS...the sphere is an illustration for that essay. Apart from that, though, great fun! :D

Hi Roxanne! Great work!

I may be a long, long way from the notablility of Ghandi and Che Guevara, but it's nice to feel included for a day. ;-)

That shirt brings back memories -- I used to have the Graphitti "Zot!" logo t-shirt. Then I had an accident with laundry bleach and ruined it.

This one was hand-painted, finished around midnight of the night before the event...

Completely excellent!

Might there be photos of the Notables all together? I'd like to see Kurt Cobain, Gandhi and Scott standing side by side.

I'm sorry to say I forgot my camera, and I was lucky her teacher didn't. I have a very small bmp of the whole room that doesn't have the resolution to pick out much. Still, that would be a good line-up, and they could have had George Patton, Che Guevara, Grace Kelly, Sir Francis Drake, Fidel Castro, Enzo Ferrari, Lenin, Frieda Kohl, Craven Walker, too; they were all there.
